Cyfarchion (Hello There in Welsh)

Where does the time go – I have been really bad for not writing. I have been reminded but then I get busy.

Since I wrote last I had another visit to the family in Townsville and was able to play with lots of my relations. Diesel was there and is so important since he has won some prizes in the shows that he didn’t have much time for me. I made friends with a new guy called Fletcher – he is from Ireland and is a lot of fun – I really enjoyed his company.

I haven’t been to many shows and I usually just go for the ride to watch the Salukis being shown and to cheer for Jasper and Rashida. Khadija has been off on maternity duty – she had eight babies. All a bit boring – all white so like fat witchetty grubs. They have grown up now and I have a couple to train in the house yard. They really are not respectful and tend to treat me like a football which doesn’t help me maintain my dignity.

I think the one that is staying is called Zaarfirah and she really needs to learn how to be a lady. I think I am going to be very busy instructing her on how she should behave. It is really difficult because when I shout instructions to her I get yelled at – just how do they think I can sort her out if I can’t bark at her.

After all my complaints I did finally get a couple of new outfits – a red one that doesn’t do a lot for my colour and a pink and blue one. BUT they are just ordinary dog coats for the cold weather while that Greta has more new outfits. Really why can’t my family understand that I just can’t keep my head up when I see Greta wearing her green coat with the fur collar and box pleated skirt or her black and white spotted outfit with the pink belt. It just isn’t fair!

Cyfarchion (Hello There in Welsh)

I am back, I am back. In time for Christmas!
Sorry I haven’t written to everyone but you just won’t believe what happened to me. I went out to the airport and climbed into my crate – it has my name written all over it and a sign on it to say it is my own personal property. It was a long trip up to Townsville where I was met by Chris. I did remember him from when I was a baby so it was like coming home for a visit.
I did get to meet and play with the spunky guy called Diesel – he really is a dish even if his bark has a funny Welsh accent. We did have so much fun playing! One big problem - I started to put on weight and was getting really fat. Rhian told me I couldn’t go home because my Brisbane family would not be amused as I had managed to get pregnant. I wasn’t sure what she meant.
So I did get fatter and fatter --- then I had babies!! Can you believe that is what happens when you get fat! I did stay and look after them until they were big enough to eat by themselves and had started to play. They are cute little fat grubs!
Last week Chris and Rhian told me I could go home next week, so on the 16th I climbed back into my own carry case and flew home. Penny met me at the airport and here I am back at Paws and Whiskers, the best dog kennel in all of Australia.
I was concerned that I would miss out on all the good Christmas presents if I stayed away and I really did need to check up on all my people, the Salukis and those darn cats.
I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and is lucky enough to get lots of good presents.

Cyfarchion (Hello There in Welsh)

I am so excited as I have some news for you so I am writing this very quickly.

I am going on holidays and by myself. I heard Penny and Erin talking about it and then I realised it was me going. Whoo Hooo! I am going to fly to Townsville to visit my first family and meet some of the other Dachshunds there. I think I heard Erin saying something about “Boot Camp” and having to behave but I am sure they will all think that I am Special just like they do here. Then I can just be me! I also overheard them talking about this English bloke called Diesel – I can call him a bloke because I am Australian even if my mother came from Wales. He is supposed to be really good looking and wins lots in the shows, and I think I am going to be allowed to play with him.

The other bit of news – remember last time I told you about the fat hairy one called Bibi who came to stay and couldn’t jump up. Well would you believe it, I went over to say Hello to her and she growled and told me to “Get away” so I didn’t of course – after all it is my house and she is just a visitor. She had three little fat creatures with her – they looked a bit like mice only they were the wrong colour. So that is what baby Papillions look like and that is why she was so fat! Ian came home last week and gathered them up and took them away so I guess I won’t be able to play with them. They were pretty boring though as they slept all the time.

Well I better go and make sure that my carry case is ready for me. Penny told me to be bad so everyone would get sick of me and send me home. Guess that will depend on how spunky this Diesel bloke is!

And who knows I just may have more news and surprises for you with my next newsletter.

Lordy Lordy – just where does the time go. I am sorry I haven’t written to you all but I have been SOOO busy. I have been looking after Erin because she had something done to her knee. I think they chopped it off, but she still has a leg so I must have it wrong. I did need to make her sit and stay – and I stayed with her to make sure she did. Goodness she was cranky – not a nice person at all.

I have been supervising the kennels again. Erin and Penny went to Europe because Erin was judging. Matilda and I went down to the kennels so we could keep an eye on them and make sure all our clients were having a good time. We really do have wonderful staff but we wanted to be sure everything was ok – it is such a responsibility being in charge. Matilda isn’t much help as she keeps going to sleep – she is old.

Talking about Matilda I know she is old but she is still pretty quick on her feet and she managed to shock the entire household the other day by catching a lorikeet. And those Salukis were having their dinner, so they can’t claim that she stole it from them. She was pretty disgruntled when Penny took it off her.

We have a new family arrived at the kennels - a mother and father kookaburra with two kids have moved into a tree near the cattery and arrive for breakfast every morning. I wonder if they will laugh to remind Maria if she is slow- because she does insist on feeding the cats first.

Ian is off travelling and judging again, only this time he has brought Bibi Papillion to stay with us. Can’t really understand why but it might have something to do with her being SO fat. She is so fat that she has to be carried up the stairs – I get told” you have legs come up yourself”! I did have to tell the cats that they must be polite to her because she is a visitor. I think I heard some mutters about it was their house – they not always very gracious.

Rashida and Azeemah Salukis had a day out last week. They went to Luring Coursing and Rashida said it was so much fun and she wanted to keep running and chasing. I am hoping I can go next time even if Rashida was very rude about my short legs. I can still run faster than people can. Azeemah was rather full of herself and said she was the Star – Rashida said she did an OK run but then she would stick up for Azeemah since she is her mum.

Easter has gone –and I didn’t see the Easter Bunny even though everyone kept talking about it. I was going to chase it because I heard that bunnies can run fast.  I wonder if they eat chocolate because I wasn’t allowed to have any which I think  is pretty mean because I am sure I would love chocolate.

Guess who came to visit me (with tail wagging so fast) my sister “Holly” I was so happy to see her, but Oh Dear!  Holly has gone up a few Bandana sizes, we will have to do lots of running and playing so she can wear one of my Bandana’s.

Erin and Penny gave Meena an 18th Birthday party and Matilda and I wore our best Bandanas, there were many new and old friends to show off to but I love Meena’s Godfather Denis the best (see our loving photo) There was lots of nice nibbles and I manage to convince some people to share even though I heard Erin telling people not to give me anything – she is mean!

Binatang and Puccini went to a cat show the other weekend and Puccini has his head in the clouds because he won “Supreme Shorthair Kitten” Erin brought him a new toy and (which I play with too) Maybe Ian should take me to some dog shows again so I can be Supreme too. Rashida would also like to be Supreme so we can out smart those cheeky cats. I did get even with Erin for not feeding me enough as she let her handbag on her bed –before I got up. So I waited till she had gone to the kitchen and checked in the bag -voila! I found some little white sweets and ate one. Boy! Was Erin cross and told me that it served me right when I was sick but it did mean I was able to go to the cat show so I could be “watched”. Now handbags are not left where I can check them out which is sad as I just might find some chews instead.

Oh Dear! I have not written anything since before Christmas, but I have been very busy so I will tell you all about it.

First Erin and Penny took Minuette and Ginger Mick to Bangkok and I was put into the kennels with the old girl Matilda for 10 days. It was so much fun, I could bark and chat to the other dogs as much as I like (without getting told to be quiet) I could leave my pebbles and puddles anywhere I needed to do them as the kind kennel hands Henri and Cindy just cleaned it up without telling me I was a bad dog. Erin don’t like me much when I do pebbles and puddles in the house.

When Erin and Penny got back home Matilda and I were allowed back in the house so I can play with my friends Binatang and Puccini. They had missed me so much, but the old cats just looked at me and said “Not you again” sigh! I was also able to play with Rashida my new saluki puppy as she is also allowed in the house sometimes.

I have been told that it is nearly Easter time and we will have more pets coming to stay. Just like Christmas when I am in the office I kept getting told that I must stay in my basket so I am not sure how I am supposed to say Happy Easter to them. I have to wait till I go to the kennels to say Hello and Welcome to the dogs. And I’m not allowed in the cattery so they don’t get to meet me at all. The dogs are all telling me that their people are going away to all sorts of places for the Easter break. I do tell them they wouldn’t have as much fun or get to play if they went with them- much better to be here at Paws and Whiskers.

I am still trying to work out Easter as I don’t know what chocolate eggs has got to do with the Easter bunny, I would rather play with the bunny as I am not allowed to eat chocolate.

Happy Easter to everyone.

I am told I need to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas – and since I am not sure just what Christmas is – I am not sure why! I have to wear this scarf thing tomorrow so I look festive. Guess it is better than wearing a funny red hat with white stuff on it – unless they let me chew it.

There are lots of pets coming to stay – seems to be cars coming in all the time. When I am in the office I kept getting told that I must stay in my basket so I am not sure how I am supposed to say Merry Christmas to them. I have to wait till I go to the kennels to say Hello and Welcome to the dogs. And I’m not allowed in the cattery so they don’t get to meet me at all. The dogs are all telling me that their people are going away to all sorts of places for the Christmas break. I do tell them they wouldn’t have as much fun or get to play if they went with them- much better to be here at Paws and Whiskers.

Just now I am so lucky as I have two new kittens to play with as well as my two Orientals Binatang who is my favourite and Puccini. The two new kittens are Maine Coons who are staying with us until they go overseas at the end of January. Binatang and Puccini say they are boring but I think they are jealous because they don’t have long hair like Minuette and Ginger Mick. It is good to have some other kids in the house not just boring old Matilda and the grownup cats who really have no sense of humour.

The other good thing is some of those saluki pups have left home,so they might let my new saluki pup out to play.
Merry Christmas to everyone – guess I’ll know what that means soon – hope it tastes good.

Cyfarchion (Hello There in Welsh)

September has arrived - so it is time I wrote to everyone again.

August was a fun month at the boarding kennels as we had lots of visitors come for the Ekka. We had a heap of Lagottas from NSW came to stay. Emma was the most fun because she was able to play with me as she is my age and stayed in the house yard, while the grown up Lagottas all stayed down in the kennels. Some of them had travelled to Australia from Italy, so we had to make sure that they were safe. I didn’t notice if they had an accent when they barked, so they must have been in Australia for a while.

Other bit of excitement here at Paws and Whiskers is a litter of four Oriental Shorthair kittens – I really think they look like mice and wanted to nibble one but Erin wouldn’t let me. Then Sierra growled at me!  She used to be my friend and we played chasing in the evening, but now all she wants to do is stay with the babies in her bed. Boring!  Perhaps they will grow up and become good playmates.

Haven’t been to a show since the Ekka because Ian has been away, but I think we have some coming up soon. Now that I am more than six months old, I get to compete with all the grown up Miniature Smooth Dachshunds for challenge points. I need a hundred points to become an Australian Champion so I hope you are all cheering for me.

I have been going to Tracey’s puppy Pre School and that was fun. I made friends with three St Bernard’s, Bobby Jo, Barrel and Brock. Wow! Are they big kids! They make Blaze the FoxieXChihuahua, Benkei the Labradoodle and me look really small. Hope I meet up with them again soon.

Hope you have been watching us on Facebook as there have been some really good photos of some of the lovely pets who have come to holiday with us at our pet resort.

Cyfarchion (Hello There in Welsh)

I would like to introduce myself. My name is Cwmdarhian  Joint Venture and  I am a Minature Smooth Dachshund. My family and friends call me Georgie, so I would be delighted if you did as well. The proper name is a bit of a mouthful and hard to pronounce since it is Welsh because that is where my first family come from.  My now family also call me The Geeko occasionally – I think that has something to do with my short legs so it isn’t really polite.

Wow! What a week it has been. The Brisbane Ekka is on and I have discovered that this is a BIG DEAL! Last Friday, Penny drove me in so I could show the world just what a special dog I am. I did have to share the bench (that is where we sit – on cushions!) with Khadija Saluki who thinks she is above me. Really! Because she wins lots of shows, doesn’t give her the right to be so snooty! Goodness what a lot of people and they all admired me, except the judge! He didn’t give me the prize but neither did he give it to Khadija – so that put her in her place!

I made a new friend, Emma a Lagotto,  who is my age and has come from NSW for the Ekka. We were allow to play until, Emma was bathed and groomed to go to the show. She has thick curly brown hair, which needs special grooming. Really is much easier having a coat like mine! Emma is being judged on Tuesday, I hope she wins then she can stay to play until the weekend.

Wednesday Ian is taking me back for a special puppy competition so hopefully this judge will like me better. It would be nice to have one win!

My lessons as a junior Office Manager are not progressing very well.Mavis the Office cat tells me I am a slow learner – she says kittens can purr before they leave home. I am practising but I just can’t get it right. I’d really like to be able to meet all the people when they come into the office. That way I’ll get more pats.

I am the trainee office manager at Paws & Whiskers and since I am still very young, I need to do my apprenticeship. The present office manager is a BIG cat called Mavis. The human Ian only thinks he is the manager!

Mavis is white with ginger and black markings and she has long legs! She has told me that I need to sit on the desk and purr when customers enter the office and I am finding this a bit difficult. I have asked for a set of stairs so I can get up on to the desk but was told I needed to learn how to purr first.

Last week has been really good as I  had a little friend, Lucca Thornburn who was staying with us. Lucca is my age and we have been able to have the most wonderful games. I will miss him when he goes home.

On the weekend I usually go and stay with Ian and go to shows, which is the only way I can earn pocket money. This weekend I am staying home because both Ian and Erin are judging. But we have some cat judges coming to stay so I’ll be able to check them out.

Hope I get to meet you soon so I can practise my purrs.
